Description

Back story – Little Marigold was born the daughter of two flower shop owners. When they knew they were going to have a filly, the parents were eagerly thinking up names that had to do with their favorite flowers. Finally, they decided that the filly's colors would determine what flower she was named after.
Upon her birth, the parents were naturally horrified to discover that their daughter had birth defects: a mangled looking right wing, and dwarfism. Despite that, the proud parents still vowed to raise their filly with love. The filly that they decided to name Little Marigold.
The busy flower shop parents seem to stick to their vow – especially the mother – for a while. They teach their tiny daughter the ways of the flower shop; her favorite flower quickly becoming the marigold she's named after. Over time, her mother becomes sick – going from a simple cold to a dangerously high fever in a matter of days. She dies only a week after becoming sick.
Little Marigold and her father try to keep strong and continue running the flower shop on their own, despite their now broken family. Things quickly go down hill when her father begins neglecting her out of grief. The little filly soon feels unloved and grows a hatred for flowers, being that it brings back the pain of losing her mother.
Soon, the father decides he can no longer look after the filly, especially with her disability, and he takes her to another home – something like a foster home.
Little Marigold runs away from the foster home, which is just outside of Canterlot. Eventually, she reaches Ponyville

Appearance – Little Marigold is substantially smaller than the other ponies; she's around twelve years old, but looks like a very young filly. (When she's a filly, she looks like a new born.) She has a long flowing orange mane, with two tiny little curls sticking out on either side. Her tail is a standard pony tail, just as long but curled up at the end.
She has one normal sized wing; it's fully formed and can flap freely, and she has one tiny and only half formed wing. Her eyes are a bright and light green, and her fur color is a rich yellow.
Fluttershy also has her wear a little green vest and cape and bow for when they go out to town or the princess comes to visit.

Personality – Little Marigold's personality alters through her life: sweet and helpful as a loved filly; scared and quiet, along with unfriendly through her neglect and a short time after it; then once again friendly (though shy), and sweet after she heals up a bit in Ponyville.

How she meets the ponies – After reaching Ponyville, Little Marigold wanders through the forest for a while, eventually finding Fluttershy's house. Upon seeing that no one is there (the pony is currently tending to her animals), the hungry filly enters the house, and Fluttershy finds her devouring her apple fritters and downing some milk. The older Pegasus approaches her, but the filly hides under a chair, refusing to come out; snorting angrily and scrapping her hoof against the ground. Eventually, the Pegasus gets close enough to coax more food into her, but the filly won't let her get to close.

Cutie Mark and how she gets it – Despite Fluttershy's care and love, Little Marigold is still distrusting and will barely let Fluttershy close enough to even bathe her. The older pegasus notices that Little Marigold seems to love animals, thus has her help out with looking after them. When Fluttershy tries to coax her into gardening however, the filly only goes straight back to the animals, seeming to give the garden a glare.
Fluttershy notices that her marigolds aren't growing, and are instead beginning to wilt. This saddens her when nothing the pony does seems to help nurture her marigolds. After she goes to bed one night, Little Marigold goes to work on her guardian's flowers – disregarding her hatred for flowers long enough to try a few tricks her mother taught her – and falls asleep in the flower bed. The next day, Marigold and Fluttershy are stunned to witness the blooming of the marigolds. It is there that the filly's cutie mark – a marigold with petals falling off, aptly enough – appears, when the filly decides to stop hating flowers. It is also then that the filly resolves to make a change in herself.

Her cutie mark represents her as a flower trying to blossom, but seems to have trouble doing so. Thus, petals are falling off it, but the flower still remains strong and hasn't yet wilted.

Relationships – It takes a while for Fluttershy to get her sociable enough to interact with other ponies, and even when she does, the smaller pony still doesn't like straying away from her side too often.

Fluttershy – Her mother and her world, but as told in the above, it didn't start out that way. Fluttershy is the first person Little Marigold warms up to, although it takes a while. The pony is quite unfriendly and slightly colder at first, not liking to be touched or talked to much during her first few weeks with Fluttershy. The older Pegasus's kindness eventually does her in however; the two forming the closest of their bond the day they manage to get the marigolds to bloom in Fluttershy's garden. After that, Marigold gradually warms up to her, and in fact lets Fluttershy give her her first hug after she gets her cutie mark.
She'll pretend to act dignified and prideful, and sometimes squirm out of hugs and nuzzles, pretend she doesn't need her guardian's love. However, if another pony or another animal gets too close to Fluttershy, she'll often get jealous and take the cuddles for herself.

Spike – If there's one thing Little Marigold learns from her guardian, it's the motherly touch. She'll often try to groom the baby dragon and carry him around by the scruff like Fluttershy does with her, and though he's annoyed by her constant caring and babying attitude, he tolerates it and her.

Twilight Sparkle – One of the first Little Marigold gets attached to. She enjoys helping the unicorn with her research and listening to her books. She and Spike also seem to have competition when it comes to who can be the better assistant when she's there.

Apple Jack – The pony that Little Marigold has a rift with in the beginning. When she first comes to Ponyville, she begins stealing apples when ever she can. Never having been told it was terribly wrong, and Apple Jack is furious when she finds out, complaining to Fluttershy, who coaxes the younger pony to apologize. Even after that, it takes a while to get over the incident, but the two eventually do, and Little Marigold sometimes helps out on the farm, and is rewarded with apple treats.

Rarity – The fashion unicorn adores the cute tiny pony, but Little Marigold couldn't feel any more different. She despises clothes and cute outfits, and Rarity often makes her her own personal “cutie project”, dressing her in all sorts of gowns and giving Fluttershy fabrics to sew outfits for her. Thus, the little Pegasus does not like Rarity much.

Pinkie Pie – At first, Pinkie's bubbly and much too hyper attitude makes the pony nervous at first, but when Fluttershy leaves her in her care of a bit and they bake together, both become fast friends.

Rainbow Dash – Little Marigold is absolutely terrified of the brash rainbow pony. Fluttershy is never able to really coax out the reason why other than “she reminds her too much of her father”. When it comes to Little Marigold's flying lessons, she always ducks behind a cloud or ends up losing focus in mid air and starts to fall if she sees Rainbow Dash. Eventually, Fluttershy curbs her fear enough so the pony can go near her, but that's all.

Princess Celestia – The only reason that Fluttershy is able to get a dress of some sorts on her is when the princess comes to visit. At first, the sheer height of the princess scares the little Pegasus, until she sees how kind she is. She enjoys staying by her side until the princess leaves. She's told stories of the princess's younger sister and hears it from the other ponies, Princess Celestia promises to one day introduce the two.

Sugar Snow [link] – One of Marigold's best friends; a unicorn two years older than her with no tail. Like Fluttershy, Sugar Snow is Little Marigold's role model, though in a different way. The pony marvels at how the unicorn has something that makes her different than all the other unicorns and ponies, yet she doesn't let it bother her, and doesn't even bother trying to disguise the fact she has no tail, proud to be who she is.

Honey Crisp [link] – Apple Jack's cousin, and a pony that Little Marigold did not hit off too well with as a filly. The two meet when she's in her anti social phase, and therefore greatly dislike each other -which gets to the point where Fluttershy has to put both in timeout after a pretty nasty scrap. However, the two eventually become friends.
