'Hush, Tia...'

Description

Celestia stood her ground, hooves planted firmly, almost embedded into the tile floor. She scraped one of them as warning, and kept the razor sharp horn lowered to the ground and glowing with a hot angry violet glow; poised to attack if it was necessary. (Though she really prayed to Equestria that that wouldn't be the case.)

The chimera circled her, his tail teasingly tickling the back of her leg to provoke her further, eyes sparkling with the usual playful mirth – that certainly hadn't changed from their childhood. The only thing that had was the poisonous tinge in both irises, which had arose since he had truly embraced his name, Discord.

The beautiful alicorn snorted in rage, bringing up a small cloud of dust from the carpets as she furiously stomped her raised hoof. “What do you want with me, Discord!”

The chaotic spirit casually floated onto his back, chortling in amusement, loving the angry flush he always seemed to bring out in her. “Oh, merely to spend time with you, dear Celestia. We haven't spoken in
eons! Surely you missed spending time with little Cordy, hm?”

The name struck and sliced into every one of Celestia's heartstrings. She could so vividly hear her own childish cry of that name resonating through her head, and she remembered he'd turn to her and Luna; his own ruby eyes shining with excitement as he'd follow and play with them through out the garden.

The celestial princess struggled to keep her composure, but her voice trembled as she spoke. “You think that's what I still call you?”

“Oh, that's right,” Discord sneered. “We ended the baby nick names the day you both betrayed me-”

“THE DAY
WE BETRAYED YOU?!” the princess screamed; Discord hopped back. The kind and pure hearted ruler of Equestria didn't ever raise her voice, and the draconequus was honestly a bit nervous now.

“Yes,” he somehow managed to growl, “you and little Lulu-”

“Don't call her that!” Celestia's voice was suddenly so vicious that Discord knew he needed to get out of the way – and he was right: the alicorn charged towards him, prepared to impale the fool with her horn. The draconequus stumbled back, eyes wide with horror as he braced himself for the coming blow; he stumbled back, eyes squinted shut, suddenly realizing that the princess had halted inches away from him. Tears were pouring down her cheeks in copious volumes.

“The only thing that truly mattered to us was you, Discord!
You! You – you were everything to us! Luna and I loved you so much! The feeling used to be mutual; I don't know what we did to make it go away!” The equine's entire frame shook with grief, incoherently sobbing and demanding in heavy sobbing breaths what had happened, why he hated her, what had gone wrong-

The draconequus flinched harshly, every one of his former friend's desperate shouts making him literally sink more and more into the floor, baffled, speechless, and cut to the heart. The mischievous venom in his eyes had completely faded, his breaths coming out shallow pants.

Finally, the princess completely lost all composure - and all strength – promptly collapsing – and being held up inches from the floor, soft lion paws and talons wrapped around her chest to support her. She trembled into the dark fur, dimly hearing a soft murmur:

“Hush, Tia.”

Dream or reality? Guess that's up to you. ;)

That alicorn; my god, never again.

And the question becomes, what DID happen to make the feeling "less than mutual" because Discord obviously thinks  they did something to him, directly or indirectly.
